Bali’s Fresh Levy Now Required to Preserve Cultural Heritage

In an effort to preserve and promote the rich cultural tapestry of Bali, the Provincial Government has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative – the International Tourism Levy, set to come into effect on February 14, 2024. This significant step is aimed at nurturing the beauty of Bali’s customs, traditions, arts, and local wisdom.

Under this new regulation, international travelers visiting Bali will be required to pay an International Tourism Levy of IDR 150,000 per person. This levy, a one-time payment made during travel, serves as a crucial contribution towards the protection and preservation of Bali’s cultural heritage and natural environment.

The legal foundation for the implementation of the International Tourism Levy is rooted in several key documents:

  • Law number 15 of 2023 concerning the Province of Bali
  • Bali Province Regional Regulation Number 6 of 2023 Concerning Levy for Foreign Tourists for the Protection of Balinese Culture and Natural Environment
  • Bali Governor Regulation Number 36 of 2023 Concerning Procedures for Payment of Levy for International Tourists

To streamline the process and ensure a hassle-free experience for travelers, it is strongly recommended to complete the levy payment before departing for Bali. By doing so, visitors actively contribute to the preservation efforts and gain an opportunity to engage with and appreciate the unique cultural heritage that Bali has to offer.

This initiative reflects the Bali Provincial Government’s commitment to sustainable tourism practices that prioritize the well-being of the island’s cultural and environmental treasures. The International Tourism Levy serves not only as a financial mechanism but also as a testament to Bali’s dedication to maintaining its distinct identity amid the challenges posed by global tourism.

As Bali opens its doors to international visitors, this thoughtful initiative invites travelers to be partners in preserving the island’s authenticity and beauty for generations to come.
