The drive to Banyuwangi in East Bali takes about 7 hours and takes you past numerous tobacco, cocoa and coffee plantations. You can stop along the wayat any time if you see something interesting on the side of the road.
Hint:
Normally you visit the viewpoint for the sunrise, from which you can see the Bromo and Semeru and only then drive by jeep to the volcano itself. Meanwhile, more than 1000 jeeps drive to these viewpoints every morning and it is very crowded. After sunrise, all jeeps drive to the volcano itself, which often leads to traffic jams. Therefore, we recommend making it upside down. First the Bromo itself (where there will not be so many tourists right after sunrise) and then to a viewpoint for a great view over the volcano.
