Semarang: The Venice of Java
The heart of Central Java, Semarang, with its multicultural history would be the best city for those who love exploring cities with diverse cultural heritage. It’s also one of the largest metropolitan cities in Indonesia, and provides so many compelling itineraries for you to visit. Semarang is traversed by many rivers in the middle of the city just like Venice in Italy, thus Netherland ever called this city as Venetië van Java or The Venice of Java. This city is also known as Kota Lumpia or Lumpia City. Lumpia is one of the most delicious snacks you could ever find in Indonesia. It’s a snack born by acculturation of two cultures, Javanese and Chinese, and a typical food from Semarang.

Gedong Songo – Museum Kereta Ambarawa – Hortimart – Cimori
We will pick up you in hotel and take you to Gedong Songo Temple. Gedong Songo Temple is a group of Hindu temples located in Central Java, Indonesia. The site was originally built during the early period of the Medang Kingdom which ruled Central Java during the 8th and 9th centuries. Similar to the Dieng Temples on the Dieng Plateau, Gedong Songo was erected out of volcanic stone and the two complexes represent the oldest Hindu structures in Java. Dieng and Gedong Songo predate Borobudur and Prambanan, and show considerable influence from Indian Hindu temple architecture. Then We will take you to Museum Ambarawa. Ambarawa was a military city during the Dutch Colonial Government. King Willem I ordered the construction of a new railway station to enable the government to transport its troops to Semarang. On May 21, 1873 the Ambarawa Railway Station was built on a 127,500 m2 land. This was known back then as Willem I Station. It was finished at the same time as the Jati-Bringin-Tuntang-Ambarawa line. On April 8, 1976, the Ambarawa Railway Station was officially converted into the Ambarawa Railway Museum by the Governor of Central Java Province at that time Supardjo Rustam. The museum preserves the steam locomotives. In 2010, the building of Ambarawa Railway Museum was made heritage building. Then we will Visit Hortimart, in there we will take you around the 27 hectare Hortimart Garden by car accompanied by a tour guide who will explain and introduce us to the types of plants and the unique varieties planted there.
Gua Kreo – Sam Poo Kong – Lawang Sewu – Masjid Agung – Kota Tua
Breakfast at hotel. We will pick up you in hotel and drive you to Kreo Cave. Kreo Cave, there are many monkeys that live wildly but still protected, Goa Kreo was a historic cave that formerly used by Sunan Kalijaga to meditate. Kreo Cave is said to have a very deep insides, so it can penetrate to Demak or Kendal. This cave is guarded by about 400-500 monkeys. They are wild monkeys, but they are already accustomed to the presence of tourists. Then we will visit Sam Poo Kong. Sam Poo Kong or Gedong Batu, which is a Chinese temple located in the Simongan Area, Semarang, Indonesia. This place is said to have been a stopover for Admiral Cheng Ho, an explorer from China. This place was visited by quite a lot of people because Chinese Muslims from Yunnan province were very familiar and well acquainted with and believed that Admiral Cheng Ho as a warlord of Chinese envoys of Persian descent had an Islamic background. In the evening we will take you to Lawang Sewu. Lawang Sewu, this building, which used to be the office of the Nederlands-Indische Spoorweg Maatschappij or NIS, was built in 1904 and completed in 1907. It is located at the Tugu Muda circle which was formerly called Ilhelminaplein. Local people call it Lawang Sewu (a thousand doors) because the building has so many doors, despite the fact that the number of doors does not reach one thousand. This building has many windows that are tall and wide, so people often think of it as a gate (lawang). In the Evening we will take you to Agung Mosque. The mosque complex has three central buildings arranged in a u-shape, with the domed mosque at the centre. All buildings have pitched, tiled roofs, while the central mosque has four minarets. The central roof resembles the roof of a “joglo”, the traditional Javanese house, and symbolises the rising steps toward heaven or to gain God’s blessing. The long buildings forming the arms of the U house is a library and auditorium respectively. The auditorium can hold up to 2,000 people. In the central courtyard are six large hydraulically operated umbrellas, inspired by the ones at Al-Masjid al- Nabawi in Medina, which are used to protect worshippers. The six umbrellas represent the six tenets of iman. Then we will visit The Old City, It was a trading center in the 19-20 century. At that time, in order to secure the residents and their territories, the area was built a fortress, which was named the fort Vijhoek. To speed up the transportation lane between the three fortified gates, the transportation roads were made, with the main road. The Old City Area of Semarang is also called Outstadt. The area is around 31 hectares. Judging from the geographical conditions, it appears that this area is separate from the surrounding area, so it looks like a separate city with the nickname “Little Netherland”. The Semarang Old Town area is a silent witness of Indonesian history of the Dutch colonial period for more than 2 centuries, and its location is adjacent to the economic area. In this place there are about 50 ancient buildings that still stand firm and have a history of Colonialism in Semarang.
