FREE DAY IN SAMOSIR

Guests can relax at the hotel, swim in the lake or take a bike ride around Tuk Tuk.

SAMOSIR DAY TOUR

Today you will explore the island of Samosir with your private driver. Your first stop is Ambarita, the most important Batak Toba village on Samosir, where the highest court was held on stone chairs and tables. Afterwards, visit the former home of King Sidauruk in Simanindo village and attend a performance of the traditional gate-gate dance. Afterwards we continue north to the hot sulfur springs in Panguruan. On the way back to your hotel, visit the ancient tomb of King Sidabutar.

FLIGHT TO PADANG VIA MEDAN – TRANSFER TO BUKITTINGGI

After breakfast, your driver will take you to Silangit Airport for your flight to Padang via Medan.  Please note that driving from Toba to Airport in Medan takes 3.5 – 4 hours.

Upon arrival in Padang, your driver will take you to your hotel in Bukittinggi. The drive to Bukittinggi takes about 2 1/2 hours. Upon arrival in Bukittinggi, the afternoon is at your leisure.

BUKITTINGGI – HARAU VALLEY

In the morning, head to the Harau Valley with your driver. Explore the valley on a 2-hour walking tour. With a bit of luck you can see black Siamang and Gibbon monkeys here. The hike ends at a waterfall for a relaxing swim. Afterwards we go to a family’s house for a small Padang cooking class before heading back to Bukittinggi.

BIKE TOUR AROUND BUKITTINGGI

After breakfast, your driver will take you to the village of Koto Baru, the starting point of today’s bike tour, in about 45 minutes. With your guide, you’ll explore the surrounding villages and rice fields at the foot of Merapi Volcano. From here you have a beautiful view over Bukittinggi. Along the way, make several stops at small villages, where you can learn about traditional blacksmithing and rice cultivation in Sumatra. During a small coffee stop, you can get to know villagers. In the afternoon, head back to your hotel in Bukittinggi.

FLIGHT TO TANA TORAJA VIA MAKASSAR

After breakfast, explore the surroundings of Bukittinggi. But first we go to Sianok Canyon, a 150 meter deep gorge located on the edge of Bukittinggi. On a 2-hour hike you will go through small forests and bushes until you reach “Koto Gadang”, a village known for its traditional silversmiths. Here you can look over the shoulder of the blacksmiths before continuing with your driver to Lake Maninjau. On the way to Lake Maninjau you will enjoy the beautiful view on one of the most winding roads in Sumatra.

TANA TORAJA DAY 1

Enjoy your last day in Sumatra. After check-out, transfer to Padang Airport for your flight to Medan.
