You will be visiting National Museum – Established in 1778 by Dutch Collector, J.M.C. Rademacher, the museum ceramics, statues, money, bronzes, gold and other cultural exhibits. It provides the historical background of Jakarta through display of old maps and antiquities including furniture and porcelain used by Dutch rulers.

OLD TOWN OF JAKARTA

Officially known as Kota Tua. It's also known as Oud Batavia (Dutch "Old Batavia). It's spans 1,3 square kilometes within North Jakarta and West Jakarta. 
Kota Tua is a remainder of Oud Batavia, the firts walled settlement of the Dutch in Jakarta area. It was an inner walled city with it’s own the Castle. The area gained importance during 17th-19th century, when it was established as de facto capital of the Dutch East Indies.

 

CHINA TOWN

The Chinatown of Jakarta began long before Indonesia existed as a nation and was originally the Chinatown of Batavia. This was the area where the Dutch required the Chinese to live. Today, the whole area is called Glodok and includes traditional houses, markets, architecture and some very beautiful Chinese temples; the Da Shi Miao and the Vihara Dharma Bhakti temples are both popular tourist attractions. The Glodok Market is one of the great commercial centers of Jakarta where you can buy everything from antiques to laptops.

THOUSAND ISLANDS

Thousand Islands is a tropical getaway that is just one boat ride away from the hustle and bustle of Jakarta. Located on the north side of the metropolis, Thousand Islands are not actually comprised of one thousand islands, but rather 76 islands. The farther the island from the Bay of Jakarta, the prettier it gets. As the tide comes, some smaller islands can temporarily vanish and reappear again as the water retreats.

A one-day excursion to Thousand Islands is absolutely possible. The islands offer various outdoor and physical activities, from diving, snorkeling, fishing, or just sunbathing with the sound of chirping of birds and waves breaking on the shore as the perfect background sound. Ayer, Putri and Pantara islands are some of the most well-known islands in the mini archipelago.

NATIONAL MONUMENT (MONAS)

The National Monument is one of the most important landmarks in Jakarta. The city’s mascot is 132-meter in height and has a gold-plated bronze flame on its top. Take an elevator to the highest floor of this building (115 meter high), to a platform that allows visitors to see a 360° view of Jakarta. The monument is surrounded with public spaces where locals get together and do physical activities. A museum is also located in the National Monument. It functions as a cultural educative information center.

FATAHILLAH MUSEUM

Also known as The Jakarta Historical Museum or Batavia Museum and located in an area of 13.388 sqm, this Fatahillah Museum is also known as Jakarta Historical Museum or Batavia Museum. It is the biggest museum in Jakarta and an essential part in the city’s history. The museum has stunning colonial-style architecture with a collection that ranges from the Dutch occupation era up to the Independence era. Rent a bike to get a better feel of this historic building by riding around the area.

SUNDA KELAPA OLD HARBOR

If you want to get a feel of Jakarta in the olden days, then Sunda Kelapa Old Harbor is the perfect place to start off the city’s historic tour. Start early in the morning or in the afternoon when the traditional phinisi wooden boats are docking in perfect rows and beautifully contrasting with the clear blue sky and the gentle sun.

TRANSPORTATION
Car and taxi are two of the best options to explore Jakarta. Hiring a car and driver is easy to do and taxi is abundant. The most notable and safest taxi company is the Blue Bird taxi. The TransJakarta bus is a great option to avoid traffic jams. The bus runs special routes, mostly on the main roads of the city. For more thrilling and authentic rides in the ‘Big Durian’, try the bajaj and ojek (motorcycle taxi).

TIPS
Jakarta is the busiest before and after office hours. The traffic situation can significantly worsen with heavy rains. The best decision would be to choose a hotel close to places that you want to see or visit.

Jakarta is a culinary mecca with foods from every part of the country and even the world. Food enthusiasts will feel right at home here. Blok S in South Jakarta is the place to find organized culinary stalls where locals usually hangout to kill time and eat good food.
